This chapter was all about avoiding a crisis and how to respond if there is a crisis. According to Grunig, Grunig, and Dozier, there are four principles of a crisis period.
The Relationship Principle says that an organization can deal with a crisis better if it has a good, long-standing relationship with the public. The Accountability Principle says that the organization should accept responsibility even if they are not at fault. The Disclosure Principle says that, during a crisis, an organization should disclose all known information. The Symmetrical Communication Principle says that during a crisis, an organization should consider the public interest to be as important as their own.
In short, an organization should listen to the public and try to take steps to avoid a crisis in the first place.
